What You Need to Know Before Treatment

Stomatitis treatment requires preparation. Below are the essentials your vet will check, and what you should do before and during the protocol — so the medication can do its work safely.

ESSENTIAL

Get a full oral exam first.

Before starting Molnu, have your vet confirm the diagnosis and rule out abscesses, oral tumors, or severe periodontitis. These issues need to be addressed before — or alongside — antiviral therapy. Any damaged teeth should also be extracted before or during treatment.

CONTRAINDICATION

Not suitable for use in the following situations.

Molnu is not recommended for pregnant queens, nursing mothers, or kittens under 4 months old. It is also not recommended for cats with FeLV, heart conditions, or severe liver/kidney impairment. Please consult your vet before starting.

ESSENTIAL

List all current medications.

Certain medications may interact with the antiviral treatment protocol. Please tell us every medication your cat is currently taking so we can check for any potential conflicts before starting treatment.

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

Strongly recommended: isolation during treatment.

Because one of the major causes of stomatitis is chronic calicivirus infection, any cat may become a long-term carrier of calicivirus. Calicivirus can also spread through airborne particles. Isolation is the best way to help prevent chronic viral carriage in cats with stomatitis.

DOCUMENT BASELINE

Take photos and a weight reading.

Before the first dose, capture clear oral photos (both sides + back of throat) and weigh your cat. These two data points are how we — and you — measure real progress through the course.

TAPER OFF

Gradually discontinue pain medications.

If the condition has improved, NSAID pain relievers, antihistamines, and other pain-control medications should be gradually reduced and discontinued under veterinary supervision.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Questions, answered.

Everything pet parents commonly ask before starting a treatment plan with PETCOME. Don't see yours? Message us — we usually reply within a few hours.

01 What is Molnu? Why can it help treat stomatitis?
Molnu is Molnupiravir, also known as EIDD-2801. It is an antiviral medication that can effectively inhibit feline calicivirus (FCV) replication, which may help improve and treat stomatitis.
02 What is the difference between Molnu and EIDD-1931?
Basically, there is no major difference, because once Molnu enters the intestines, it is rapidly converted into EIDD-1931.
03 My cat hates taking medication. How should I give it?
You can mix the powder directly into stronger-smelling foods or foods your cat especially likes. We highly recommend a puree-style treat called Churu. As long as the amount of powder is properly controlled and mixed well into the food, most cats will accept it without problems. If your cat still resists taking the medication, you can contact us and we will help provide additional guidance.
04 My cat's condition has improved a lot. Can I stop the treatment?
No. We recommend completing 12–20 weeks of treatment, and the inflammation in the back of the mouth must be completely resolved before stopping the medication. Many owners choose to stop treatment once symptoms improve significantly, but relapse often occurs a few weeks later. This usually happens because the virus has not been fully eliminated and the immune system has not fully recovered yet. Always contact our team before stopping treatment so we can help confirm whether it is safe to discontinue the medication.
05 What are your shipping and refund policies?
Most orders arrive within 5–7 business days, although some countries may require longer shipping times. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our support team.
06 Do you offer ongoing support after I order?
Yes. Every plan includes direct access to our support team via WhatsApp, Messenger, and email. We'll check in at key milestones and you can reach us anytime with questions, concerns, or progress updates.
